Here is one of the shots from a session with Heidi over the weekend. I'll be working on more of them for a gallery this week.

SO what gallery? What kind of thing are they being used for?
I have a couple of suggestions for the next time.
Try to remember- Nose to the light source. It will help you avoid the darkness on the mask of her face. Also objects closest to the camera appear larger. So have women put her weight on her back foot and hand on back hip so elbow is not heading into the lens. Also I would suggest you then have her twist around into the light. It will not only light her face better but it is very slimming and adds more shape to her.
I know you want to learn as much as you can, so I hope this helps.

In addition to what Sarah said, watch your metering like a hawk. Her face is pretty bright and a bit over exposed. Every time you change you need to re-meter. You will get a color shift if it is over-exposed even if you are not clipping completely. Keep studying your light patterns and posing. You are definitely doing the right thing by shooting a lot. That's really important. From here just take these things, apply them, and keep shooting.

Thank you all. I am writing all suggestions down in a notebook, so I do remember them. Very much appreciated.

I was going to mention something about the blown face but Michael swooped in and covered it. I've done the exact thing when I was at a wedding. Got in the moment and forgot how close the light was and that I didn't adjust for it...Boom..blown out wedding dress! It's all about shoot, learn, shoot, learn. It never stops

Allen, You seem to like to turn the face away from the light...Maybe up the main light to equal that kicker you have to the camera left. Joe

Your basic light set up should look something like this for good loop light. Then add kickers if you wish.

Thanks, Joe. Yeah ... I don't know what was up with me that day. Bad drugs? No, that's not it. I know I've done better. I'll just keep shooting and working on it.
